According to an article reporting on research into mental health in Australia under the pandemic lockdown, there are indications that some improvements to personality characteristics have occurred while people have been going through lockdown.
The article reports on some speculations as to why, but I consider one factor that has to be taken into consideration is the benefit of not working in office environments - especially offices with the psychologically damaging "open plan" configurations or that stop or limit personalisation.
I suspect the problem of "office politics" continues, but in a slightly modified form - it may be at a lesser intensity, perhaps.
There is also the benefit for minorities of not having to put up with discriminatory behaviour or harassment.
Why do academics miss these sort of aspects? Too narrow a focus? Lack of experience in such environments? Journalists should be aware of the problems.
Ah well, everyone is being pushed back into office work, but at least most are now realising (a) that such is not necessary, and (b) flexible work arrangements allowing some work at home is a good thing for the company and for workers (the fact that it i good for workers should be enough to tell people it is good for company, but there seems to be a need to spell that out).
