Last night I came across this interesting statement in "The March of Folly: From Troy to Vietnam" (Amazon), by Barbara Tuchman, who also wrote "The Guns of August" (Amazon; my review here):
"Prison does not silence ideas whose time has come, a fact that generally escapes despots, who by nature are rulers of little wisdom."
