Although the "more than 40" March4Justice events were impressive - particularly the numbers, passion and eloquence, I wish to sound one note of caution:
if all the women who attended were progressives beforehand, and none were those who voted conservatively at the last election, nothing will change.
To get realistic change, in my opinion we need to get rid of the government of Scott and Dutton.
To get rid rid of the government of Scott and Dutton, we need to shift votes from the conservative (including rabid haters like the ONP) to the progressive side of politics.
If yesterday's events, magnificent as they were, did not include people who will change their vote from conservative to progressive, we will be stuck with an abhorrent but scandal-resistant Murdoch-media - neoliberal alliance (I'm tempted to use the term "puppetocracy", but that underplays the role of the neolibs and lets them off the hook for their empathy-free evil) who will still need to be dislodged by changing votes.
PS - with regard to the ALP, they have had an internal policy in place for some time, and recently (but before recent events) surveyed members for their views on the adequacy of the procedure.
PPS - Scott, Dutton and their ilk are the most misogynistic people I have ever come across. This is irrespective of any sexual assaults: it has to do with actions such as turning their backs on women when they're speaking and silencing those speaking for women and minorities, grabbing hands to shake without consent, and the utter abomination of needing lessons on empathy - and the malice that is shown by smirking about it all. The word evil, in my opinion, fits.
