Russia's invasion of Ukraine: a minor military comment

Current media reports put a great deal of emphasis on a long Russian military column which, according to the tenor of media reports, is all in a single column on a single road . . . a mistake most military people haven't made since the late 1700s (and especially not with tanks, which were developed as tracked vehicles to cross "no man's land" and trenches in World War [part] One)

Is the reporting accurate, or is that another example of the command & control problems Russia's military are having (especially with multiple arms coordination)? Or are logistical problems, as suggested by reports of vehicles in that column running out of fuel, behind this?
