Victoria Police apologise for past and present racism, indicate openness to independent oversight "if asked"

From my coming news post:

Victoria Police has apologised for past and present racism, and indicated a willingness to be subject to independent oversight "if asked" - see here (Yoorook Justice Commission), here (TG), here (ABC), here (TA), here (AAP), and here (SBS) (I also thought it was good that elders were acknowledged as past, present, and future);

I have also written an email to my local MLA:

Dear Member for _,

I wish to thank Victoria Police and all others involved in the mature, comprehensive, and momentous apology (here [The Guardian], here, [ABC], here [The Age], here [AAP], and here [SBS]) given today by Chief Police Commissioner Patton, APM, to the Yoorook (Truth Telling) Commission for past and present racism.

I also wish to urge the Victorian Government to take advantage of the Commissioner's willingness to be that Victoria Police is open to being subject to independent oversight "if asked".

If you appreciated this post, please consider promoting it - there are some links below.

Finally, remember: we need to be more human being rather than human doing.
