From my coming news post: on the abuse of refugees [Content Warning: cruelty, savagery]

This if from my coming news post - and is one of those matters that is too important to risk being lost by being buried in a larger post: 

an extract from a book examines the political, policy and human failings leading to the egregious brutality of our asylum seeker policy (this is staggeringly disturbing. The comments along the lines of avoiding crises are academically appropriate, but it comes down to people sacrificing their humanity [caring for people committing self harm is rewarding them???!!!!! That’s like saying stopping torture of people is rewarding them for screaming!!!!!] for incredibly misplaced notions deeply afflicted with amathia and refusal to be human. As John F Kennedy once said: “There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction”) (TC);
