This if from my coming news post - and is one of those matters that is too important to risk being lost by being buried in a larger post:

is staggeringly disturbing. The comments along the lines of avoiding
crises are academically appropriate, but it comes down to people
sacrificing their humanity [caring
for people committing self harm is rewarding them???!!!!! That’s like
saying stopping torture of people is rewarding them for screaming!!!!!] for incredibly misplaced notions deeply afflicted with amathia and refusal to be human.
As John F Kennedy once said: “There are risks and costs to a program of
action. But they are far less than the long-range risks and costs of
comfortable inaction”) (TC);
