A transgenocide [Note: Content Warning] is underway

With organisations now helping trans and gender diverse (TGD) people to flee the USA and UK (e.g., this one), where medical treatment is being denied and measures taken to ghetto-ise the lives of trans and gender diverse people, it has to be said a transgenocide (more accurately, and trans-and-gender-diverse-genocide) is underway. 

Lets consider the ten stages of genocide: 

i. Classification 

​ii. Symbolisation 

​iii. Discrimination 

​iv. Dehumanisation 

​v. Organisation 

​vi. Polarisation 

​vii. Preparation 

​viii. Persecution 

​​ix. Extermination 

​x. Denial

A brief comment on these stages is: 

Stage 1 - Classification applies as an inevitable outcome of society’s rigid binary gender fixation, and is reflected in the existence of the term “trans and gender diverse”. 

Stage 2 - Symbolisation doesn’t apply that I can see it. 

Stage 3 - Discrimination has always been an issue, starting with with the nazi's destruction of the “Institut für Sexualwissenschaft” in the 1930s, and continuing with social ostracism and violence (I recall jumping on to a tram in the 90s to escape a beating), blatantly discriminatory laws, and massive obstructionism to change in most parts of the world.

Stage 4 - Dehumanisation is very apparent in the hate speech being used against TGD people - including here, in Australia, which has become particularly virulent and widespread in the last decade or so.

Stage 5 - Organisation is being enacted through already existing organisations - particularly in the USA. 

Stage 6 - Polarisation and Stage 7 - Preparation are in full swing with the hate speech of many right wing political and social extremists, and the viciously transphobic laws of the USA. 

Stage 8 - Persecution has always been with us, but it has become much worse in the last ten or fifteen years, and is reaching a crescendo in the USA - see the reference at the start of this post to organisations helping TGD flee the USA and UK. But even here in Australia, I now have second thoughts about going out to places I used to in response to hate speech promulgated by the former neoliberal national government - and some I no longer even consider.

Stage 9 - Extermination is where we are now at. Uniquely, this is largely not being done by military means, but by means of denying TGD people medical assistance, although violence against TGD people - particularly from police - has become worse, in my opinion.

Stage 10 - Denial has always been with us, with the religious haters even having the gall to claim this is about their perverted conception of “love”.

In summary, TGD people have always been subjected to discrimination, ostracism, and violence. It has become worse in the last fifteen or so years - particularly at the hands of right wingers (including here in Australia), and has reached a point of legal enaction in the USA and social hate in the UK that TGD people - especially TGD children - are being forced to flee for their lives. 

Is that not transgenocide?
