From this week’s coming news post:
the woman (TG) who modernised (TC) the UK’s colonialist (NIT) (see also here (NA) ) monarchy but allowed (SMH) her representative to remove an elected Australian government and had undue influence (TC) over laws, has died of natural causes, leading to public (TND) grieving (TND) and the passing the role to her 73 year old son (TG) - who has shown some signs of progressiveness (Wikipedia)
I want Australia to move from constitutional monarchy to a true democracy, but as a human being I can appreciate the human cost, complexity and flaws of that woman’s life, and its mixed legacy - which includes the human cost for her family, the perpetuation of classism, colonialism, and political & environmental damage, some of which is tied to the role more than the person in that role, but exists nevertheless.
I do not consider anyone should be in such roles: all of us need to grow up and take responsibility for the good and bad of our collective decision making, which I think she did, to some extent (especially regarding Thatcher).
May the woman behind the role of Queen Elizabeth II now rest in peace, and have a better time in the next round of life, and may her flawed, somewhat progressive, and human son be given all aid to cope well with the role he has now been pushed in to.
