Dear Member of Parliament,
Fwd: Flood-Affected Victorians Warned Of Mosquito Risk
This is a very timely and important warning to those affected by the recent floods - and it was also pleasing to read of the funding being made available.
My thanks to all involved in those measures.
One suggestion, if I may. Given the inevitable increase in risks associated with mosquito and other similar disease vectors, the inability of some renters to pay for insect screens, and the irresponsible intransigence of some landlords on the issue of insect screens, I consider insect screens will have to become a compulsory part of housing.
I know some dislike the reduced ventilation, but
(a) screens can be segmented for partial opening - and are removable for cleaning if they feel too strongly;
(b) the ventilation is going to be utterly useless during heatwaves; and
(c) the risk from disease is major.
As an initial step, perhaps funding could be made available in areas which are currently at risk of such diseases, with additional areas added as the risk spreads.
I would be happy to discuss this further, but no reply to this email is necessary.
If they are of any use of interest, the activism information links from my former news posts are available in this post.
