anyone distressed by anything in this post, or for any other reason considering
seeking support, resources are available in Australia here, here, and here. In other nations, you will have to do an Internet search using terms such as “mental health support - <your nation>” (which, for instance, may lead to this, this, and this, in the USA, or this, this, and this, in France [biased towards English-language - my apologies]), or perhaps try https://www.befrienders.org/.
Note: in my “from the news” posts, quotes are shown italicised and blue, my comments are in a different shade of blue, and “good” items are shown in green.
I have loosely grouped the posts where such seemed reasonable, but that
is subjective (i.e., my opinion - others are free to disagree), and
challenging, as some posts belong in multiple “groups”.
The Guardian is currently publishing an excellent series - the sort of series that is likely, in my opinion, to lead to real change - on homelessness, which their investigation has shown results in appallingly early deaths.
I will be including this in the coming end of week news posts, but it is worth checking in each day as it is published. My item for the weekends news post is currently as follows (it will change as more is published):
a major The Guardian exclusive series titled “Out in the Cold”, home page at https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/series/out-in-the-cold, reports on the premature death crisis of homeless people in Australia, including: “Homeless Australians are dying at age 44 on average in hidden crisis” https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/feb/05/homeless-australians-are-dying-at-44-on-average-in-hidden-crisis “Exclusive: Guardian Australia investigation lifts the veil on shocking life expectancy gap and the system failures fuelling deaths” “What do we know about homelessness deaths in Australia – and why is nobody tracking them?” https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/feb/06/australia-homeless-population-deaths-numbers-prevention “Roger Davies died with nine broken ribs. I am also about to draw my MPs’ attention to this series ... and to Finland’s success on this matter.
