anyone distressed by anything in this post, or for any other reason considering
seeking support, resources are available in Australia here, here, and here. In other nations, you will have to do an Internet search using terms such as “mental health support - <your nation>” (which, for instance, may lead to this, this, and this, in the USA, or this, this, and this, in France [biased towards English-language - my apologies]), or perhaps try https://www.befrienders.org/.
With the Oslo Accords having been so dead since around 2005 that they’re zombie-like, something that it is natural to contemplate is:
how far back did the vile 7th October attacks put the hearts and minds of those in West Asia back to?
With Egypt now possibly building camps in the Sinai for Palestinians who may be driven out of Rafah, and warning that such will end the 1978 Camp David Accords, it is easy to consider that the region is largely back to 1970s attitudes and feelings, maybe even those of the 1960s.
However, looking at the Israeli actions, I consider their leaders’ attitudes and mindset have possibly been driven back to 1943 or '44, and the worst of the Holocaust.
That is why they are being so unrelenting - and, as I have written elsewhere, that is doing the cause of Israel, peace, and decency so much damage - damage being visited on and through the minds, bodies and souls of Israel’s victims ...
Note that I stated “leaders”: there are many other Israelis who want better, but they are not in political power - not now, at any rate.
The situations are not exact parallels, of course: there are key differences - such as the fact that Israel now exists, that Israel has significant military capability - and allies ... and that the surrounding nations have also developed their military capabilities beyond what they had when Israel last fought against them ... and they are angry.
A two-state solution is the only viable solution for peace. I fear we will have to wait for a future generation of leaders - and hope the damage in the meantime is not irreparable, including avoiding war but also addressing the massive human rights violations that Israel is committing ...
As a first step, in my opinion, Israel has to put everything else aside and vote Netanyahu out, for someone better, at the next elections in 2026 - much as the USA has to ensure Trump and the Republican party are clearly and overwhelmingly voted against at their next elections later this year.
In my opinion, for the sake of the world - based on the interests of the 7.7 billion people outside those two nations, nothing else matters for those elections.
Assumptions / basis
In writing this, I have assumed / started from the following:
- this blog states quite clearly that it is about political and human rights matters, including lived experience of problems, and thus I will assume readers are reasonable people who have noted the content warning in the post header;
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan
Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
