(a) the victims of the gossip, and
(b) the active harm done to reputations and careers by malicious and bigotted gossip.

I looked for a way to contact those responsible for this flawed research, but I have to create an account with The Conversation to do so, and I am considering whether that is worth yet another password (the requirement to use a real name is OK, provided it is only used responsibly, and, given the amount of public hate people in minority groups experience, and the obvious incompetence of these authors, I am wary on those grounds).
The article details are:
- “Office gossip isn’t just idle chatter. It’s a valuable – but risky – way to build relationships” https://theconversation.com/office-gossip-isnt-just-idle-chatter-its-a-valuable-but-risky-way-to-build-relationships-227220
