“It’s
not a bad thing to have privilege; in this case it’s not a bad thing to
have thin skinny privilege - if you understand that you have it and you
understand that others don't, maybe amplify their voices. If you
understand that you have white privilege over a person of colour. maybe
amplify their voice. Because people will naturally think that you are
more authoritative because you are ... more pleasant to the way that
their eye has been trained. And having a platform allows us to make a
minuscule change in what the common perception is, because this is still
a media. So that is what I hope the community can do: break through
their own unconscious biases and take acknowledgement of their own
privilege. Privilege is not a bad thing to have, you don’t have to deny
that you have it because it’s a dirty thing; you need to understand it
and embrace it, so that you can put it to the service of those who
don’t.”
That puts a, to me, new light on the topic ... It’s like being rich: what matters is what you do or don’t do with it - including what you do or don’t do to get and/or keep it ...
