anyone distressed by anything in this post, or for any other reason considering
seeking support, resources are available in Australia here, here, and here. In other nations, you will have to do an Internet search using terms such as “mental health support - <your nation>” (which, for instance, may lead to this, this, and this, in the USA, or this, this, and this, in France [biased towards English-language - my apologies]), or perhaps try https://www.befrienders.org/.
Note: in my “from the news” posts, quotes are shown italicised and blue, my comments are in a different shade of blue, and “good” items are shown in green.
I have loosely grouped the posts where such seemed reasonable, but that
is subjective (i.e., my opinion - others are free to disagree), and
challenging, as some posts belong in multiple “groups”.
This is from my coming weekly news post. I’m a little sad at what I consider ... outrage at the wrong thing ...

Her final job was in Gaza” https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/zomi-frankcom-fed-people-around-the-world-her-final-job-was-in-gaza/76n8kt6se This may have a larger impact than the images of starving children ... which, while understandable (sort of), is disappointing - why not commensurate outrage over the images of starving children? Is it easier to be outraged over something that is quick than something that takes time to effect evil? Or is the problem media bias in reporting?
In addition, the ICJ has issued a modified order:
- “The ICJ’s Modified Provisional Measures Order in South Africa v. Israel” https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-icj-s-modified-provisional-measures-order-in-south-africa-v.-israel “The
Court’s March 28 order finds that the exponentially deteriorating
humanitarian conditions in Gaza constitute a change in the situation and
warrant additional measures” The modified ICJ order can be found at: “Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip” https://www.icj-cij.org/sites/default/files/case-related/192/192-20240328-ord-01-00-en.pdf This
decision states that the Court cannot order a cessation of hostilities
or military support or the commission of other actions by others for
this interim decision, but Israel’s claims with regard to its
humanitarian actions appear to have been discounted, and ordered “Israel
shall: (a) take all necessary and effective measures to ensure, without
delay, in full co-operation with the United Nations, the unhindered
provision at scale
by all concerned of urgently needed basic services and humanitarian
assistance, including food, water, electricity, fuel, shelter, clothing,
hygiene and sanitation requirements, as well as medical supplies and
medical care to Palestinians throughout Gaza, including by increasing
the capacity and number of land crossing points and maintaining them
open for as long as necessary; and (b) ensure
with immediate effect that its military does not commit acts which
constitute a violation of any of the rights of the Palestinians in Gaza
as a protected group under the Genocide Convention, including by
preventing, through any action, the delivery of urgently needed
humanitarian assistance.” (emphasis added by me), and reiterated the Courts previous order. Assumptions / basis
In writing this, I have assumed / started from the following:
- this blog states quite clearly that it is about political and human rights matters, including lived experience of problems, and thus I will assume readers are reasonable people who have noted the content warning in the post header;
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan
Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
If they are of any use of interest, the activism information links from my former news posts are available in this post.
