I think I found some inspiration for the national ALP from the West Wing’s Series 3, Episode 7 “Gone Quiet”.
At around 34:28 - 35:00 the character Oliver Babbish says:
“...but this investigation isn't about that. Its about the criminalisation of politics. An attempt to do in a hearing room what they couldn’t do at the ballot box. ... Truth isn't a luxury. You’re going to go in there, you’re going to swear an oath, you’re going to get asked questions, you’re going to tell the truth. It’s the way you stand up and say, “Stop!””
At at around 35:45 - 36:46, the Bruno Gianelli says:
“... ’cause I’m tired of working for candidates who make me think I should be embarassed to believe what I believe. ... We all need some therapy because somebody came along and said liberal means soft on crime, soft on drugs, soft on Communism, soft on defence. And we’re going to tax you back to the Stone Age because people shouldn’t go to work if they don’t want to. And instead of saying “Well, excuse me, you right wing, reactionary, xenophobic, homophobi, anti-education, anti-choice, pro-gun, Leave it to Beaver trip back to the ’50s”, we cowered in the corner and said, “Please don't hurt me””
Assumptions / basis
In writing this, I have assumed / started from the following:
- this blog states quite clearly that it is about political and human rights matters, including lived experience of problems, and thus I will assume readers are reasonable people who have noted the content warning in the post header;
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan
Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
