  • “PrideVis initiative to improve security for Oxford Street”   https://qnews.com.au/pridevis-initiative-to-improve-security-for-oxford-street/   “Bars and pubs along Oxford Street have come together in a united front against homophobia and transphobia by encouraging security staff across the precinct to wear “PrideVis” security vests.   The PrideVis vests are a safety initiative by the Surry Hills Liquor Accord supported by the City of Sydney, NSW Police, the Oxford Street Pride Business Charter and the Rainbow Precinct.”   What an excellent idea!

  • “Australia’s key program for gender equity in STEM was scrapped last week. This could actually be good news”   https://theconversation.com/australias-key-program-for-gender-equity-in-stem-was-scrapped-last-week-this-could-actually-be-good-news-231321   “The report indicates more effort is needed to remove cultural and systemic barriers that hinder individuals from diverse backgrounds from entering and sustaining careers in STEM”   Based on my lived experience over an entire career, cultural and systemic barriers are a MAJOR problem that is ignored by too many women who make it in that environment - and then deny any harm as part of their fawning response to that masochistic culture

If you do, don’t get too fixated on specific instances of problems - important though they may well be: take a moment to also consider the broader issues these incidents and groups of incidents may suggest/reveal. Also, consider this poem of mine.

  • there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”; 
  • I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
