In the film “The Sum of All Fears”, there is a scene where the (fictional) Russian President takes responsibility for a terrible mass atrocity ordered - without permission or authority - by a general, on the staggering grounds that it was better to look incompetent than weak ...
Reality has now followed fiction, with the leader of Australia’s conservative opposition reportedly deciding to enforce a policy change that puts human survival at risk, rather than admit to imperfect communication and/or misinterpretation by the media ...
This appalling act of primary school yard level incompetence and contempt towards the human species was reported in an exclusive by The Guardian. See:
“Peter Dutton didn’t mean to change Coalition policy on 2030 target – but decided to own it” https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/article/2024/jun/26/how-a-dutton-misstep-on-climate-saw-him-go-quiet-for-three-days-then-come-out-swinging “Exclusive: Text messages asking ‘did we miss a party room meeting?’ pinged between Coalition MPs, caught out by new ‘position’ on 2030 emissions target”
PS - the labels to this post include the term genocide, as that is what all forms of climate denialism/delayism are actively causing. Legally, as they are also part of the group being destroyed, their actions may not meet the definition of genocide - which, disturbingly, may also apply (despite common use of the term in the context) to what was done in Cambodia in the 1970s (“classicide” / “politicide” / “cultural genocide” MAY be more accurate). However, it says a great deal - none of it good - about what I consider to be the deeply, deeply, DEEPLY emotional and psychological state of these denialists.
Assumptions / basis
In writing this, I have assumed / started from the following:
- this blog states quite clearly that it is about political and human rights matters, including lived experience of problems, and thus I will assume readers are reasonable people who have noted the content warning in the post header;
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan
Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
