I’ve often pointed out the hypocrisy of people angrily insisting on being “logical”, “rational”, and “unemotional”...
Here are a few links to help debunk that rubbish:
- “Feeling and Thinking: How Both Logic and Emotion Shape Who We Are” https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/transcending-the-past/202204/feeling-and-thinking-how-both-logic-and-emotion-shape-who-we-are “New findings show the critical role emotions play in our thinking”
- “Emotion vs. Reason: Rethinking Decision-Making” https://neurosciencenews.com/emotion-reason-decision-making-25803/ “Summary: Researchers challenge the notion that rational thinking is the only path to good decision-making. ... This revelation not only questions our reliance on logic but also underscores the importance of emotional engagement in ensuring decision confidence. They advocate for a balanced approach, integrating instinct and intuition into our decision-making processes.”
- “Emotional Thinking vs Logical Thinking – What is The Difference” https://magnifymind.com/emotional-thinking-vs-logical-thinking/ “We’re frequently told that emotions are “irrational” and that it is better to think logically or rationally. I believe this claim is flawed since it disregards the vital function emotions play in helping us understand ourselves and the world around us. Emotions are real. They are physical. They are data.”
Assumptions / basis
In writing this, I have assumed / started from the following:
- this blog states quite clearly that it is about political and human rights matters, including lived experience of problems, and thus I will assume readers are reasonable people who have noted the content warning in the post header;
Possible flaws
Where I can, I will try to highlight possible flaws / issues you should consider:
- there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan
Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
- I could be wrong - so keep your thinking caps on, and make up your own minds for yourself.
If they are of any use of interest, the activism information links from my former news posts are available in this post.
