Another trans right activism email

I sent the following to my Federal MP today:

Dear Member for _,

I wish to respectfully bring the following to your attention, to ensure you are fully aware of some recent publications on trans issues.

Although this first one is framed in a religious context, it includes what I consider outstanding historical, social, human rights, and political analysis of the issues around trans rights:

This continued from a previous (also around one hour length) video which also provided outstanding analysis of the misogyny against Imane Khelif:

One comment I would add is that the use of signs such as “punch a n_zi/TERF” (or throwing water balloons) are both unacceptable in principle (although understandable given the existential threat transphobia is * ), and also constitute amathiac activism as they are harmful - both reducing support by driving away potential allies and hardening the hearts of those who need to hear the message about not being transphobic.

There are also some useful comments in the following about the need for legislation to protect activists, but also the flawed mental approaches of M___, who, despite claiming to be a free speech absolutist, banned the term “cisgender”, but allows the other side of the coin “transgender” to continue to be used. I find such flawed thinking too common amongst transphobes - as well illustrated by Ysha’s analysis.

There is also concern in the LGBTQIASB+ communities about the deferral of the religious discrimination legislation, which is probably most clearly discussed (including the perceptions/opinions of many) in the following:

From my point of view, as a Pagan, I want to see the act in place and protecting those of minority faiths - such as myself and minority faiths that are receiving considerable attention at the moment.

• this blog states quite clearly that it is about political and human rights matters, including lived experience of problems, and thus I will assume readers are reasonable people who have noted the content warning in the post header;

• there may be flawed logical arguments in the above: to find out more about such flaws and thinking generally, I recommend Brendan  Myers’ free online course “Clear and Present Thinking”;
