I recently came across something on one of the few social social media I am sill on which claimed that racism is an adjective, not a noun.
RUBBISH!!!
Whoever came up with that is probably trying to encourage change away from racism (which is good), but doing so by enabling a form of spiritual bypassing to avoid feelings of shame/guilt/pain is likely to result in shallow, superficial personal change for a few, whilst missing some of the major problems.
Firstly, for white supremacists, racism is a core, key and essential part of who they are - it IS a noun for them.
Secondly, some of the biggest problems associated with racism are the structural and systemic forms of it. To claim it can be trivialised to an adjective when entire government departments have been constructed to enforce white supremacist is not only wrong, it is morally, ethically, personally, and in every other conceivable way OFFENSIVE.
Lay off that racist-minimising trope of racism/white supremacism being an adjective right now!
